Thursday March 14, 2019-Media practitioners have warned religious leaders againstthreatening and harassing journalists who pursue incriminating stories aboutthem.
Speaking under the auspices of the Kenya Media Sector WorkingGroup, the group singled out rogue ProphetDavid Owuor of the Repentance and Holiness ministries and his counterpart, PastorJames Ng’ang’a, of the Neno Evangelism ministry.
They accused the duo of mobilizing theirfollowers to embark on smear campaigns online against journalists while warningthem of dire consequences.
“…The Kenya Media SectorWorking Group (KMSWG) has noted with concern a trend where religious leadersand formations with questionable credentials are now training their guns on themedia, harassing journalists and curtailing free media in Kenya.”
“The KMSWG takes greatexception to such behavior from the religious leaders and draws the attention ofthe National Police Service and the Director of Public Prosecution to theactions of these said religious leaders especially their issuance of threatsdirect threats to journalists as well as online bullying by their followers,”read part of the statement.
Prophet Owuor and Pastor JamesNg’ang’a have made headlines lately following exposés in mainstream media thatcaused the public to raise eyebrows on how their ministries operate.
