Ekiti moves to check animal diseases

Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi on Wednesday told livestock owners in the state to ensure the immunisation of their animals to avoid killer diseases.
Fayemi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Oludare Abegunde, spoke in Ado Ekiti while opening this year’s ‘Pestes des Petits Ruminant’ otherwise called ‘kata’ vaccination for sheep and goats.
Abegunde, who emphasised the economic importance of the vaccination to non-crop farmers, said the vaccine was meant to immunise sheep and goats against Transboundary Animal Diseases.
The Director, Veterinary Department in the ministry, Dr Femi Ajibua, praised the state government for partnering the Federal Government to provide free vaccine against diseases that could kill domestic animals in the state.
