The National Assembly’s Powers and Privileges Committee has pushed the grilling of two People Daily journalists summoned over a bribery story to August 14.

Reporters Dinah Ondari and Anthony Mwangi were summoned by Speaker Justin Muturi over an article they wrote alleging corruption within Parliament.

The article titled "House of Bribes" claimed parliamentary committees have largely been turned into avenues for rent-seeking, cover-ups, and shoddy investigations.

The MediaMax reporters claimed that Sh500 million has exchanged hands in questionable dealings between the MPs and various parties under probe by the 12th Parliament.

People Daily Managing Editor Ken Bosire told the press on Thursday that the committee had assured that the journalists are not going to be on trial.

According to Bosire, the committee said it is not an adversarial thing but an interaction.

"It is not an adversarial thing but an interaction, that assurance we have been given and is a matter that is on public records," he said.

Bosire said the summon is a choice which they could choose to waiver but will instead appear before the committee to clarify on matters.

He, however, added that they would not be forced to reveal their sources.

"We’ve told them it is not in the interest of the media that we reveal our sources," Bosire said.

The editor said that it was the responsibility of the committee to uphold the integrity of the house adding it should carry out its own investigations.

"Whatever was raise it is up to them to go back and investigate," he said, "Clearly something is not right within their ranks."

Kenya National Commission on Human Rights on Wednesday took a swipe at Muturi over the summons saying it violates the freedom of the media.
